Updated: May 18, 2022

PETALING JAYA: It was a mission well accomplished for the Malaysian Under-23 as they defeated Laos 3-1 in the SEA Games Group B match in Hanoi.
In what was billed as a revenge match, Harimau Muda – led by coach Brad Maloney –downed Laos 3-1 in their encounter at the Thien Truong Stadium in Nam Dinh on Wednesday (May 11).
It was indeed a sweet victory as the Malaysians lost to the Million Elephants twice in the AFF Under-23 Championship, 1-2 and 0-2 in February.
From start to end, Malaysia dominated the game, created the most chances and showed why they deserved their 3-1 victory.
Belgium-based striker Luqman Hakim Shamsuddin shone with two goals.
His first goal was in the 36th minute when he received a lofted pass from midfielder Nik Akif Syahiran Nik Mat, beat a defender by cutting to the right and thumped a shot past Laos' goalkeeper Keo Oudane Souvanasangso.
The KV Kortrijk striker then got his second in the 67th minute when he capitalised on a rebound off Souvanasangso's save.
Syahir Bashah scored Malaysia's third goal in the 42nd minute when he unleashed a curling shot from 20m.
